AS Roma vs Genoa will be a very important game at the opening round of Italy’s Serie A, at Stadio Olimpico, in Rome. Both teams had a successful offseason this summer and played lots of preparational game. Moreover, teams worked hard during the summer transfer window and strengthened the teams in various positions.

Very likely, that team will play again very open football. Last 5 games finished with goals from both teams. However, AS Roma won 3 out of 5 last matches and played 2 draws. At home ground, Roma won all matches against Genoa since the 2008 year. In this game, both in terms of capabilities and history, AS Roma is a clear favourite, but as you can see, Genoa can also score a goal and possibly terminate a series of losses since 2008. Read our thoughts on this interesting match AS Roma vs Genoa Serie A here below.

AS Roma

AS Roma took the 6th place last year in SerieA. They were only 3 points away from taking the place in top 4 and take a ticket to the UEFA Champions League groups stage. That was the weakest result since 2011/12 year as they took then 7th place. Last year, they were knocked out from CL in 1/8 Finals against Porto.

This summer transfer window was very active for the Yellow and Reds and called lots of new players. From Juventus, for 29.5m € they brought Leonardo Spinazzola who is very great as a left-back. Because of lack of the good Olsen form, Roma called Pau Lopez from Real Betis for 23.5m € to be the main goalkeeper of the team. To strengthen their centre of the field, Roma brought Bryan Cristante and Amadou Diawara from Atalanta and Napoli for the same 21m € amount. These players have big experience in Italy, so hopefully, they will fit the game very fast in Rome. Of course, Roma sold several players too. Konstantinos Manolas left the club to join Napoli with an exchange deal of Diawara. Lucas Pellegrini also were the Leonardo Spinazzola part of the deal. One of the most talented players in Italy Stephan El Shaarawy joined SH Shenhua.

Now the team is built very well, which can return the team to a higher level again and compete even with Italy’s most powerful rivals.

Genoa

Genoa were very lucky to stay in Serie A for this season, as they took 17th place with the same amount of points as Empoli. Fortunately, that Genoa’s defence were better than Empoli’s, and during the season they collected less conceded goals, however, they scored also less than Empoli. All in all, that is a big luck to be on the verge of falling into Serie B. Now it’s time to prove, that everything happens with a reason. The team worked strongly during the offseason and summer transfer window bringing to the team more motivated and strong players to succeed this year.

One of the biggest seasons signings is Stefano Sturaro from Juventus, who can be a strong playmaker in the middle of the pitch. Unfortunately, several young and very prospective players left the club. Cristian Romero, Ionut Radu, Eddie Salcedo (17 years old) and Luca Zanimacchia left the club to Juventus and Inter. Perhaps the team rotated lots of the important players, we believe that this season should be more confident. This team has a core, and it is very important for achieving results.
