Second qualification match for the ATP Grand Slam US Open (hard). There we’ll see a young local American facing off against a young talent from Spain. To have more insights on this ATP Tommy Paul vs Pedro Martinez match, please check out the preview below.
Tommy Paul
22 years old American, who is currently ranked 112nd overall, is enjoying playing to his home crowd here, at the USA. For a young guy who hasn’t proved anything yet, it’s very important to have a crowd on his side in order to reach better results on the highest stages. Tommy Paul has become a very good player on the hard surface throughout the past few years and has also won 10 out of 15 matches that he’s played this season as well. Paul is a hard-hitter who has a very strong strike from many angles and loves to play attacking tennis. He’s tried his luck in Montreal recently and managed to get into the second round of Master Series tournament, but lost against F. Fognini in straight sets after that. Anyway, there is no doubt about his motivation and ability to get this victory here, at the US Open.
Pedro Martinez
Currently, 152nd ranked, 22 years old Spaniard is not that well known for many tennis fans as his tomorrow’s opponent but has definitely had something to show in his game. The only problem coming into this qualification for Martinez is not having a lot of official matches played on a hard surface. Out of 58 matches, he’s played this season, 51 were played on clay, having only 7 matches played on a hard surface. Well, it’s definitely not a huge number for a guy trying to get into the main draw for the biggest hard tournament of the year. It’s hard to expect something from Martinez in this match, as Paul is shining on this ground and also playing at home, but we’ll see what tricks Martinez hides upon his sleeve.
