The second match of qualification for the ATP Grand Slam, US Open (hard). This should be an interesting match between two guys who heavily prefer playing on a hard surface over any other one. To have more insights on this ATP Ruben Bemelmans vs Ilya Ivashka match, please check out the preview below.
Ruben Bemelmans
Ruben is a 31 years old, currently, 181st ranked player, whose highest rank throughout his career were the only 84th. Even though he’s got around 58% career win rate playing on a hard surface, Behelmans had his worst season competing on this specific ground this season so far. He’s only managed to win 3 matches in 14 played. The most concerning thing is that these loses came not at the highest-ranked tournaments. Unfortunately, at the ones like Challenger Series and ATP 250, where higher calibre players tend to win at least some games. Bemelmans doesn’t have any significant ability. However, he’s a good all-around player who does have a strong serve. It will be hard for him to match Ivashka, given how well he’s been performing. However, Behelmans has more experience on his side and it might be a factor here.
Ilya Ivashka
25 years old, currently 143rd ranked in the world. Ivashka comes into this tournament after having a great run at ATP Master Series in Montreal, where he picked up 3 victories and only dropped out after being match with a G. Monfils at the 1/16 final. Ivashka is a real fighter who doesn’t give easy points and makes every hit count. He’s also a hard-hitter as he’s making a lot of winners with a strong forehand. Ivashka had no problems at the opening match against A. Moraing and won that match in straight sets 6-3 6-0. Expect him to take this dominance and into tomorrows match and keep fighting for the spot in the main draw of the US Open.
