Rafael Nadal
33 years old Spaniard, who is currently ranked 2nd overall, hasn’t let down this tournament so far. Even though he’s aging and is already 33 years old, the quality of his game is not going down at all. Nadal has won 39 out of 48 matches he played this year including 13 victories on hard. Nadal had no problems in first two matches here, at Montreal by defeating D. Evans and G. Pella in straight sets. Of course, Nadal is the king of clay and he’s not as good on hard, but he’s good enough to compete against the biggest names on tour on this ground as well. Rafa has lost his previous match against Fabio this year at Monte Carlo and will definitely want to get revenge here.
Fabio Fognini
32 years old Italian, who is very close to this highest career ranking (9) is currently ranked 11th overall. It’s not usual to see him competing at such a high level on hard but he’s been definitely playing great on this ground this year. There is no doubt that his best ground is clay and the biggest wins he’s had are on that ground but are seeing a lot of improvements on hard as well since the last season. Fognini hasn’t lost a set here at Montreal so far as he’s defeated T. Paul and A. Mannarino comfortably in straight sets. Of course, tomorrow’s match will be a very hard one for him, but knowing his long history against Rafael we might see Fognini surprising everyone once again.
