The FINAL match of an ATP 1000 tournament at Montreal, Canada (hard). Two best players of this tournament will face off against each other in a definitely must-watch battle. To have more insights on this ATP Rafael Nadal vs Daniil Medvedev match, please check out the preview below.
Rafael Nadal
33 years old, 2nd ranked Spaniard has once again reached the final stage of this tournament at Montreal. Nadal had only lost a single set in last-years run at Canada in order to win the title and he also has a similar result here. Nadal defeated D. Evans and G. Pella in straight sets, then gave a set to Fognini in a 3 set victory and didn’t have to play the semi-final as Monfils retired before the match even started. Rafa is playing great tennis here without showing any weaknesses. Not only that, but he’s also got lucky as Monfils retired so the Spaniard should be a lot fresher than Medvedev. Nadal had also more time to prepare for the match than his opponent, so given all the circumstances he’s got very good chances to defend the title today.
Daniil Medvedev
23 years old, currently 9th ranked Russian will move to 8th spot after this tournament. Medvedev has dropped out from this tournament in R16 last year and reaching the final this time added a lot of points to his wallet. The Russian has faced a tough competition here, at Montreal but managed to win all of these matches convincingly without even losing a single set. He’s beaten K. Edmund, Ch. Garin, D. Thiem, and K. Khachanov to reach the final stage. 2 of his opponents are Top 10 ranked players, so no matter how the final will end up, Medvedev should already be happy about his performance here, at Montreal. Medvedev has never played against Nadal before, so it’ll be very interesting to see how he’ll be able to manage Spaniard’s challenge at the biggest stage.
