Pablo Andujar

33 years old, currently 70th ranked Spaniard has played over 800 matches on clay throughout his career, while only having 121 played on hard. Anyway, he’s managed to pull out one of the biggest upsets for the first round after being able to defeat one of the better players on a hard surface, Kyle Edmund. Even though it took 5 sets for Andujar to do, he’s looked pretty confident in his plays yesterday and his fans should be optimistic coming into tomorrow’s match against Sonego. Andujar still loves to play slower and passive tennis compared to most of the hard surface players and we’ll see how it works against aggressive and attacking tennis player tomorrow.

Lorenzo Sonego

24 years old, who is currently ranked 49th overall, is having very solid results playing on a hard surface, even though he’s mostly a clay player. 270 matches on clay, while only 62 played on hard, but the win rate on compared on both grounds is similar – around 60%. Sonego has won 12 out of 18 matches on hard this season and is looking better with every match played. He’s playing more aggressive tennis than Andujar and it will all depend on whether Sonego will manage to create good opportunities and exploit Andujar’s weaknesses with his aggressive playstyle or not. Sonego is a very talented player and his victory tomorrow would not surprise anyone at all.
