So today we are going to meet in Monte Carlo QF, where the great Serb Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev are going to face off. The third Masters 1000 series event of the year awaits us at luxurious ATP Tournament in Monaco. We’re gonna see a very exciting first round match between two young talent Daniil Medvedev and Novak Djokovic. This one is going to be a really entertaining matchup.
Novak Djokovic
The first player is the living legend – Novak Djokovic. After last season, arguably the best of his career Novak came back to number 1 position in ATP ranking. This season started very well, he won another slam. After that, he struggled a bit when he lost against Kohlschreiber and Bautista-Agut (once again). But now he started this season on a clay court where in the first round he won in a deciding set and then he managed to overcome against young American Taylor Fritz.
Novak is all court player. He likes to dictate the game on the baseline. He defends very well but also great in transitions when has to play aggressively. His groundstrokes are deep and penetrating. Novak has the best two-handed backhand probably in all tour. The key of his play is the return of serve, which can be offensive and defensive.
Daniil Medvedev
Second player – Russian talent Daniil Medvedev. Out of the three Russian stars Khachanov Rublev and Medvedev, Danil is showing the best tennis. Last season was especially successive for him as he won three ATP titles. The most memorable was Tokyo ATP 500. This season looks to be a great one as well – already a title in Sofia. Also reached his best result in a grand slam. And his clay court swing started like a dream here in Monte Carlo was he demolished strong players Sousa and Albot and won against Tsitsipas.
Medvedev’s style is very versatile, he’s got great shots from the baseline and also plays well at the net. Moves very well though is a tall guy. Has a good serve and a great backhand and is one of the best defenders on the tour. Daniil has a great potential to lift the biggest titles in tennis and is probably best Russian hope to do so since Safin.
