The first round of ATP 500 tournament in London, United Kingdom. There we have one of the oldest facing one of the youngest players and it’s going to be interesting to see who comes out on top. To have more insights on this ATP Nicolas Mahut vs Francis Tiafoe matchup please check out the preview below.
Nicolas Mahut
37 years old Frenchman is a rare participant in any of bigger tournaments these days but he gave himself a chance in this one. Mahut had a good French Open where he defeated Cecchinato and Kohlschreiber while being considered an underdog for both of these matches. He hasn’t made it into the main draw in Queen’s club instantly as he had to play qualification matches. He’s won against Davidovich Fokina and Nicolas Jarry in 3 sets in both matches but he’s made it to the main draw. Nicolas had a great career record on grass as he’s won 113 out of 173 matches on this ground and this fact has to be respected as the Frenchman might surprise us again.
Francis Tiafoe
21 years old American is not having his best season so far this year. He had some problems with injuries and even though he is playing something seems wrong with him as he doesn’t look like he used to even though he is still very young and should improve a lot. Francis had some great runs last year and has even climbed up to 35th rank but as mentioned previously this season hasn’t been great for him. Tiafoe is mainly a hard ground player and this is one of the reasons why he’s struggled this season so far as well because clay is not his ground for sure. We have to look forward to what Tiafoe has to offer on grass as he hasn’t played a lot of games on this ground yet.
