Quarter-final of an ATP US Open Grand Slam, USA (hard). This will be probably the closest quarter-final of all as both players are showing up in great form and play on a very high level. To have more insights on this ATP Matteo Berrettini vs Gael Monfils match, please check out the preview below.

Matteo Berrettini

23 years old, currently 25th ranked Italian has been playing very well in this year’s US Open. Even though he came into this tournament after dropping out of Cincinnati in the first round against J. Londero, he’s definitely showing up and proving that he can’t be underestimated. Berrettini has already beaten R. Gasquet (3-1), J. Thompson (3-1), Al. Popyrin (3-1) and A. Rublev in straight sets. Actually the match against Rublev were the most important one that showed how Matteo’s form evolved throughout the tournament. He looked very strong, confident and didn’t even give Rublev a chance to get back into the match. Berrettini didn’t have a good record on a hard surface before entering this tournament, but now he is a really dangerous opponent for anyone.

Gael Monfils

33 years old, currently 13th ranked Gael is looking forward to coming back to Top 10 soon. It’s kind of hard to believe, but this guy has an incredible record on hard this year even though he’s struggled with injuries for quite some time. Monfils has won 15 out of 18 matches he played on hard this year, including victories over A. Ramos (3-0), M. Copil (3-0), D. Shapovalov (3-2) and P. Andujar (3-0). There were questions how well Monfils is going to look like after such a tough match against Shapovalov, but Monfils came out swinging in 1/8 final and swept P. Andujar away in straight sets. Monfils is looking dominant and in a great form currently.
