The first semi-final of the day in ATP 500 tournament in Halle, Germany. Here we have 23 y.o Italian facing off against a lot more experienced Belgian who’s struggling this season so far. To have more insights on this ATP Matteo Berrettini vs David Goffin match please check out the preview below.
Matteo Berrettini
Young talent from Italy is having an incredible season so far. 12/4 record on clay and today he found his 8th win in a row on grass as well and hasn’t lost on this ground this season yet. Knowing that it’s only the second season as Berrettini plays on grass the result is astounding. Usually, most of the players struggle at playing in the second consecutive tournament. However, Berrettini doesn’t show any sign of weakness after winning a title in Stuttgart only 5 days ago. Italian has only given a single set away to Seppi in all of this season’s matches on grass and the form he’s playing with is more than impressive.
David Goffin
28 year old Belgian has not been impressive so far this season. Goffin is capable of playing on any ground at a similar level but seems like this season he’s not in his best form both on clay and hard. Only 6 out of 12 wins on clay and 6 out of 11 on hard is not what everyone expects from a player like Goffin. Either way, he finally started to play better at Halle where he defeated Pella and Albot at the opening rounds. Goffin also impressed everyone today by defeating Alexander Zverev who was considered to be a favorite of the match. Seems like Goffin finally found his rhythm on grass and tomorrow’s match will be a very interesting one.
