Semi-final of an ATP 250 tournament at Newport, USA (grass). This will be a battle of experience against the youth as one of the veterans will face off against one of the youngest players at the tournament. Marcel Pujol-Granollers 

33 years old Spaniard has improved his game on the grass a lot these past 2 seasons. Not only did he have a 7-3 record on grass last season, but this season is even better – Granollers has already won 11 out of 15 matches played. Even though he’s only being ranked 98th at the time, he’s qualified for Wimbledon and even reached the 2nd round of the main draw. Marcel continued his winning ways here at Newport by defeating Gunneswaran, Thompson, and M.Zverev all in straight sets to reach this stage. Granollers has a good serve and is also good at longer rallies.

He’s changed his playstyle for the past few seasons and adapted it to grass very well as he’s mostly been known for his plays on clay before. It will definitely be a tough match tomorrow as Bublik is also playing great, but Spaniard has already proven to be a real contender for the title of this tournament. 

 

Alexander Bublik

22 years old Kazakhstanian has been placed as an underdog for all of his 3 matches here at Newport but has managed to prove everyone wrong. Bublik has defeated A.Bolt, V.Troicki, and T.Sandgren on the way here. All of the matches were finished in 3 sets and the question of Bublik’s fatigue and stamina for tomorrow’s match comes into the mind. Of course he is still very young and his body is well prepared but still, 3 long matches in 4 days and 4th on the way is not an easy task for anyone.

Bublik has improved his all-around game at this tournament as he’s managed to come back after losing the 1st set against the Sandgren today to win the match in 3 sets while only serving at 61%. If his serve starts working better tomorrow just as the all-around game did today, Bublik might have good chances to reach his first final in quite a while.
