Quarter-final of an ATP 250 tournament at Umag, Croatia (clay). This should definitely be an exciting match as two of the best-ranked players of this tournament will face off against each other. To have more insights on this ATP Laslo Djere vs Leonardo Mayer match please check out the preview below.
Laslo Djere
24 years old 32nd currently ranked Serbian is slowly but surely becoming a real threat for anyone at any tournament he plays. Djere didn’t have the best of runs last few weeks on grass, but this is his first tournament on clay since the French Open and he’s already started strong. He got into 3 sets match against Lorenzi, but anyone who watched the game could have seen that Djere looked like a much better player. Serbian does also have a great career win rate on clay by winning 223/323 matches played which translates to 69% and that’s huge.
This year is no different as Laslo has won 16 out of 23 matches played and is knocking to that Top20 in the near future. He’s also reached the same stage at Umag last year and will definitely want to improve his previous result.
Leonardo Mayer
32 years old veteran is currently being ranked 60th overall and probably has his best days gone now, but if there is a ground where he can still perform very well it’s definitely on clay. Mayer had a good run at French Open where he only dropped out at R16 against Roger Federer while defeating Vesely, Schwartzman, and Mahut on his way up to this stage. He’s does also have a similar career win rate on clay compared to his tomorrow’s opponent which is 68% overall. Even though he struggled at the start of the season he does look a lot more into form these days and has already proven it by defeating Andujar and Vesely in first 2 stages here at Umag as well. If Mayer manages to take the same form into tomorrows match he will definitely have a good chance of moving forward into the semi-final.
