1/16 finals of an ATP 1000 tournament at Montreal, Canada (hard). There we have two of the best players on tour facing off against each other at a very early stage. To have more insights on this ATP Karen Khachanov vs Stanislas Wawrinka match, please check out the preview below.

Karen Khachanov

23 years old Russian is currently ranked 8th overall, which is his highest career ranking so far. It’s really strange that Khachanov managed to stay at this rank while not having reached anything this season. Khachanov’s highest achievement this season is reaching the quarter-final of a French Open and that’s not really what were expected from the guy as talented as the Russian is. Anyway, coming into the hard ground season things should change for good on Karen’s side. He’s got over 60% win rate throughout his career on this ground. There would be no surprise to see him starting well from this point. It’s very unlucky for the Russian to face such a strong opponent at an early stage of this tournament. In order not to drop out early, he will have to show the best tennis he can play tomorrow.

Stanislas Wawrinka

34 years old veteran have dropped from 3rd to 22nd throughout past years mostly due to injuries that he’s been suffering from. Wawrinka has looked a lot healthier this season. So we might very well see a comeback from this very well known player. Of course, he’s now a veteran, but knowing the caliber of the player he is, there would be no surprise to see him coming back to Top 10 if he manages to stay healthy. Stan has debuted at this tournament already and won the opening match against G. Dimitrov quite easily in straight sets. Stan will have to face a lot tougher opponent for this moment and in order to win Wawrinka will have to give his best. He’s been looking strong against Dimitrov as the backhand, that he’s well known for, worked well and overall game was on point.
