1/8 final of an ATP 500 tournament at Hamburg, Germany (clay). There we have two of the well known French players facing off against each other. To have more insights on this ATP Jeremy Chardy vs Richard Gasquet match please check out the preview below.
32 years old Frenchman, who is currently ranked 77th overall, has been playing well recently. It seems live Chardy got out of the slump he was facing at the start of the season and finally started playing as he’s capable of. He’s got into the 3rd round of an ATP 250 tournament at Bastad and has already defeated B. Paire after being able to overcome the deficit in order to come out on top in 3 sets. Chardy is still able to perform at a high level, but it all depends on whether he is prepared and wants to play because his mindset is really questionable sometimes. He hasn’t played at this tournament last year, what means a good performance at this tournament could improve his ranking positions a lot.
33 years old Frenchman is currently being ranked 65th overall. A lot of injuries this season led to dropping out of Top50. Gasquet has only played 16 matches this season due to the same reason. Anyway, after coming back from the latest injury, he finally looks like something he used to be previously. Baseline game is still solid, backhand seems to be working and the knowledge of the game is still there. He should definitely make a comeback somewhere near his earlier positions at the rankings if any of the injuries won’t occur. Gasquet had no problems defeating S. Nagal at the opening round in straight sets. Similarly to Chardy, Gasquet hadn’t had a good performance at this tournament last year and with a good performance this year he might add up a lot of ranking points to his wallet.
