1/32 finals of an ATP US Open Grand Slam, USA (hard). Two great players from different generations will face off against each other tomorrow in a very exciting battle. To have more insights on this ATP Fernando Verdasco vs Hyeon Chung match, please check out the preview below.
Fernando Verdasco
35 years old, currently, 34th ranked Spaniard has reached the second stage of this tournament quite comfortably – he had no problems in the first round against T. Kamke by winning the match 3-1. Even though Verdasco has played more on clay throughout his career compared to hard, he still has a lot of experience on this specific ground and should not be underestimated. Of course, he might start struggling at later stages if he manages to reach them only because of his age and physical conditions, but this is still an early stage of the tournament and Verdasco should be ready to play at 100%.
Former 7th world’s racket has played in this tournament last year as well. Unfortunately, he dropped out at the second stage, R32.
Hyeon Chung
23 years old Korean is currently ranked only 170th in the world. He’s missed the bigger part of the season due to injuries and had to go through the rehabilitation for quite some time. Chung came back strong. Even though he hasn’t played in any major tournaments since the return and this is his first one, Chung has been looking very good. He’s gone through the qualification matches easily, defeating his opponents in straight sets in order to achieve the main draw. Chung was very close to being eliminated against E. Escobedo in the first round but managed to come back and here we will see him competing at the next round.
Former world’s no. 19 has already passed his last year’s result of this tournament where he dropped out at R64.
