Dominic Thiem
25 years old Austrian is coming back to his favorite ground. After having such a short run on grass, where he’s lost to N. Jarry at Eastbourne and S.Querrey at Wimbledon, Thiem decided to prepare for Hamburg. He’s absolutely different player on clay compared to grass and clay ground is definitely the one that Thiem has the best results on. Title at Barcelona, Semi-final at Madrid, Final at French Open – these are already some great achievements this season for Dominic on clay grounds. If Dominic comes to this tournament with a right mindset and fully prepared we might see another great one for him. He’s got into the quarter-finals at Hamburg last season where he dropped out against N. Jarry. With a good performance at this tournament, Thiem might be able to maintain his position at the rankings as A.Zverev and S.Tsitsipas are only a few hundred points behind.
Pablo Cuevas
A true clay veteran will enter the court once again after having some tough time on grass as well. Similarly to Thiem, Argentinian is playing his best tennis on clay grounds and this is definitely the grounds he enjoys playing the most. Cuevas had some great runs at various tournaments before the grass season started. He’s reached the semi-final at Rio De Janeiro, Final at Estoril and 3rd round at French Open. Pablo were also a finalist of this tournament back to 2016 where he fell short against Martin Klizan. He definitely knows the atmosphere at this tournament and will be prepared to give a good fight to bookmakers favorite, Dominic Thiem.
