Quarter-finals of an ATP 500 tournament at Hamburg, Germany (clay). This should be an exciting match between two players who are playing some great tennis these days. To have more insights on this ATP Dominic Thiem vs Andrey Rublev match, please check out the preview below.
Dominic Thiem
4th in the world, 25 years old, Austrian has reached the same stage where he dropped out in the last season. Jarry (38) were the one to eliminate Thiem from the tournament that year. Here he is, at the quarter-finals again, and the opposition might be a little bit easier but can’t be underestimated. Anyway, knowing what kind of “beast” Thiem is while playing on the clay ground, he is for sure the favorite for this match. He’s won 16 out of 19 matches played since the ATP 500, at Barcelona. Austrian hasn’t lost a single set here at Hamburg as well. He’s already defeated P. Cuevas (47) and M. Fucsovics (51) without having any hard time. Expect Thiem to continue dominating on clay and fight for the title once again.
Andrey Rublev
Only 78th ranked Russian, who is the youngest of the players left till this stage, has managed to overcome the deficit against C. Ruud (69) to reach this stage. It seemed that Rublev hadn’t found his game since the start of the match, but after losing his serving game at the 2nd set, he came out as a different player. He came out calmer, smarter and more motivated it seemed like. That led to overcoming the deficit and winning the match comfortably in 3 sets. If Rublev could keep up this level of playing and not fall into losing his mind during some unlucky points, he might really well give Austrian a good run for his money tomorrow.
