After finishing in 5th place of the ranking, Dominic have started this season on a high note. After struggling a little bit in first two rounds of the tournament, it looks like he’s found his footing in these courts. He plays recently incredibly well. Thiem have defeated G. Monfils in the 1/8 final in straight sets and followed it up with a victory over world’s number 1, Rafael Nadal. It was a beautiful match to watch, as Thiem’s backhand were just too much for Rafa to handle. Dominic finished the match comfortably in 4 sets. Austrian has been looking like one of the tournament favourites since the start of this grand slam. So if he shows something similar to previous matches, we’ll for sure see him in the final.
7th ranked German is also having a great tournament. Of course, Zverev were lucky enough to get weaker opposition throughout the tournament, as he only faced two Top 20 players (Stan Wawrinka and Andrey Rublev). Anyway, Zverev have been playing high-quality tennis throughout most of the tournament. We could say he’s played a perfect tournament so far if not the 1st set against Stan Wawrinka, which Alexander lost 6-1. Even though he started a little sluggish, Zverev recovered quick enough and had no problems in other 3 sets, showing what he’s really capable of. Thiem doesn’t seem like a favourable matchup for Zverev as h2h shows. However, we’ll have to see what Zverev has prepared for us.
