Denis Shapovalov
20 years old, currently 33rd ranked Canadian, just like Felix, is one of the most promising rising tennis stars in the world. Shapovalov had some problems with his mental state and he’s even talked about those issues openly, but it seems like he’s finally overcame all those issues and is fully focused on his game. Shapovalov had a good run at Winston-Salem just before entering the US Open. He’s got into the semi-final at Winston-Salem by defeating T. Sangren, M. Kecmanovic and A. Rublev in straight sets, but fell short against the H. Hurkacz, who won the whole tournament later on. Shapovalov should be optimistic about his performance previously and it will be very interesting to see him competing at the highest level once again.
Felix Auger-Alliasime
19 years old, currently 19th ranked Canadian has risen in rankings in the past two years. Even though he’s still very young, his gameplay is very mature and beautiful to watch. Auger is very good at creating his opportunities to strike and also has a strong serve and forehand strike. Even though Felix has played very well this year, his last two matches weren’t that good. He’s lost against K. Khachanov at Montreal and also had no chances against M. Kecmanovic at Cincinnati. Anyway, he had enough time to prepare for this Grand Slam and should be ready to play with a full-strength once again. It would be very sad to see him dropping out at such an early stage once again.
