Benoit Paire

30 years old, currently 30th ranked Frenchman has reached this stage of the tournament pretty comfortably. He’s defeated P. Gunneswaran (89) in straight sets in the first round, U.Humbert (62) and P. Carreno-Busta (64) in 3 sets in following stages. Benoit won his 2 previous matches closing out the 3rd set strongly and this only shows that the Frenchman manages to keep his concentration and is slowly becoming a clutch player. Paire mostly relies on his serve and volley game and does also have a strong forehand to backup his serve. Paire tends to have better results on clay throughout his career, but he’s an experienced player and there is no doubt he will be able to perform on hard at this stage of the tournament as well.

Steve Johnson

29 years old, currently 82nd ranked American is having a great tournament so far. He’s defeated C. Moutet (83), D. Evans (58), C. Ruud (54) in straight sets and followed up with a victory over J. Millman (61) in 3 sets after that. Johnson is mostly a hard surface player and shines only on this ground and his career win rate on the surface represents it well – 58%. It seems like Johnson is finally fully healthy after having some time off due to some injuries occurring from time to time. He’s also performing here, at home crowd and it gives him a huge boost of confidence coming into the most important stages of the tournament.
