It’s the bantamweight bout which will take place in Sacramento, California. Both bantamweights will have a serious confrontation. Review our thoughts on this bout here below.
On the 13th of July UFC coming to California. In the co-main event of the evening former WEC Featherweight Champion and 2017 UFC Hall of Fame inductee, Urijah ‘The California Kid’ Faber (34-10) will face young and dangerous fighter Ricky Simon (15-1). Urijah Faber returns to action 30 months after announcing his retirement and he is facing a very hungry and dangerous bantamweight, Ricky Simon. It should be a very interesting fight.
Urijah ‘The California Kid’ Faber
UFC Hall of Famer Urijah Faber is coming off his retirement and he’ll do it in front of his hometown fans. Faber last fought back in December 2016. He won against Brad Pickett by unanimous decision and announced his retirement after the fight also in Sacramento, California in a frown of his hometown fans. Since retiring, Faber wasn’t far from the sport – he was one of the coaches at Team Alpha MMA. Also, he competed in a grappling match vs. 17 years old Nicky Ryan at Polaris 10 and Urijah lost that match. Now he is coming back to the UFC and faces a really dangerous and young opponent. Now ‘The California Kid’ is 40 years old so his skills inside the octagon are questionable. But he has a lot of experience (19 title fights!), he is tough, always ready to fight, has a great chin. Also, he is still a great wrestler and submission specialist. It will be interesting to see how the 30-month break affected Faber.
Ricky Simon
Ricky Simon is a great bantamweight. He lost just once in the Octagon back in 2016. Since then Simon is unbeatable and he is on an 8-fight winning streak. Ricky is coming off a unanimous decision win against Rani Yahya at UFC 234 back in February. This fight for 26 years old bantamweight will be most important of his career because he is fighting a UFC Hall of Famer. But Simon is ready for that. He is great wrestler, his cardio is off the charts – he probably doesn’t know what fatigue is. Simon will push the pace and dictate the fight. Also, his stand-up is decent – he is fast, has power in his punches. It would be a very hard fight for Urijah Faber.
