A middleweight fight between former champion Robert Whittaker and the surging Jared Cannonier is on the line for UFC 254 on October 24. Robert Whittaker

Whittaker (21-5) was previously scheduled face Cannonier (13-4) in March before withdrawing from the contest, citing burnout from training. He would eventually make it back into the win column with a decision win over Darren Till at UFC on ESPN 14 last weekend. Prior to this, fans saw “The Reaper” lose his UFC title, courtesy of a violent second-round knockout loss to Israel Adesanya at UFC 243. In what’s fully expected to be a #1 contender’s fight, Robert Whittaker will look to take out The Killa Gorilla, who is on a three-fight win streak after emphatic finishes over David Branch, Anderson Silva, and Jack Hermansson. Jared Cannonier

For Cannonier, this will mark his first fight since undergoing pectoral surgery in February. Prior to this, “The Killa Gorilla” rattled off three straight stoppage wins, which includes TKOs of David Branch, Anderson Silva, and Jack Hermansson. Jared may not be the household name that Whittaker or Till is, but he remains one of the most dangerous players in the middleweight division. One who could finish Whittaker with one punch and secure his shot at a UFC title in 2021. However, this is a huge opportunity for young talent to prove that he has already earned a title shot. Although Jared has never faced an opponent at such level, he has proven his ambitions and must use this opportunity.
