On the 13th of April, in the co-main event Kelvin Gastelum (15-3, 1NC) will face Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya (16-0) at State Farm Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. These fighters will square off for the interim middleweight strap. Kelvin Gastelum was supposed to fight UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 234 but champion had to be rushed to surgery hours before their fight. In the same event, Israel Adesanya fought his idol, legendary Anderson Silva and defeated him by unanimous decision and earned a shot to the interim title.

Israel “The Last Stylebender” Adesanya

Israel Adesanya is coming off a spectacular fight against Anderson Silva. This fight was like a ninja fight – all three rounds both fighters traded punches, kicks in the middle of the octagon. It was like a chess match, which “The Last Stylebender” won. Adesanya showed the world that he is the real deal. He has an unbeaten record, he is very long for his weight class. He is taller than Gastelum 7 (!) inches. The Last Stylebender also will have 8 (!) reach advantage over Gastelum. Adesanya is one of the highest level kickboxers in MMA today. He is fighting with a lot of confidence, has heavy use of kicks. His striking is fantastic, Israel strikes from unorthodox angles. Also “The Last Stylebender” is incredibly technical and composed.

Kelvin Gastelum

Kelvin Gastelum was supposed to fight UFC middleweight champion Robert Whittaker at UFC 234 but champion had to be rushed to surgery hours before their fight. He called himself a new UFC middleweight champion of the world and walking with a belt around the arena. But the reality is that he isn’t a champion yet and he will fight Israel Adesanya for the interim middleweight title. Gastelum is much smaller than Adesanya but he has some advantages over him. American is a better wrestler and grappler. Also if Gastelum will get inside Adesanya’s reach he can throw bombs in close distance and knock out “The Last Stylebender”.

H2H

These fighters never met each other in the octagon.
