This will be the fight between Benavidez vs Figueiredo. Both fighters have faced each other before, when Figueiredo was defending the belt but managed to miss the weight, but still won the fight after the referee missed their head clash. Both fighters were eager to find out who is better on fair fight and said they will continue to fight like it was right after their head butt.

Joseph Benavidez

One of the best fighters in flyweights of this era, Benavidez has won 13 bouts in the weight class, since 2012, including a 2016 victory over ex-champion Cejudo. After his three wins in a row against Alex Perze, Dustin Ortiz and Jussier Formiga, the 35-year old is given a chance to fight for gold. This is a tough opportunity for him because opponent is surely very strong and has a 17- 1 record. However, in this fight a huge advantage will be experience and, and this is where Benavidez is stronger.

Deiveson Figueiredo

Figueiredo currently has 17-1 record, he used to be 57kg Jiu-Jitsu Northeast Brazil Champion. Deiveson started his professional career in 2011, his first fights were in Brazil where he managed to win all 11, and then he signed with UFC.  His only loss was last year on March against Jussier Formiga by the unanimous decision. But now, he has a great opportunity to fight for gold, because opponent is surely not the toughest one. So if he would manage to win, it would open new opportunities for the Brazilian. So clearly, the stakes are high for him, but he has already proven to be a great fighter and should use this opportunity.
