Nice vs Marseille is the closing game of French Ligue 1 3rd round, which will take place, at Allianz Riviera, in Nice. Both teams have recently shown unstable results. However, Marseille shows the much better result in head to head history, as they won the last 5 games against Nice. Both clubs have very talented head coaches, as Marseille now leads to new heights André Villas-Boas, while in Nice, Patrick Vieira is gaining experience and seems to be showing not bad results with the team. Last season, teams showed very similar results, so now is the best moment to take 3 important points. We suggest reading our thoughts about this intriguing Ligue 1 Nice vs Marseille match here below.
Nice
The team from Nice does not have a very strong team or cool players. However, the home team shows good results thanks great team-play, as last season they took 7th place in the Ligue 1. The main weapon of this team is a very strong defence. Last season, the Eagles scored a total of 30 goals and conceded 35. The result of scoring is one of the worst, for conceding one of the bests, so the team with minimal scores won lots of points.
During the summer transfer window, Nice was very passive as they don’t bring any new to the squad, except Khephren Thuram and several young players. However, the sold one of the leaders of the squad Allan Saint-Maximin to Newcastle United for 18m €. Patrick Vieira likes to involve youngsters and call many players from the B or U19 Nice squad’s. In general, the average squad age is only 23.4 years.
Nice started the season very successfully as they won two first games and now stand at the top together Lyon and Rennes. Nice won both matches with the same 2:1 result. At home, they confidently won against Amiens, which was with the red card since 27th minute. Nice totally controlled the game and finally won important 3 points, at Allianz Riviera. In the second game, against Nimes, they scored two early goals what strongly strengthened their advantage until the end of the match. They lost ball possession, and almost had no chances to score more after these goals. Moreover, after the start of the second half, Nice got a red card and were under gigantic pressure, however, hardly stood strong until the end, but took 3 more points.
Marseille
Marseille had a very unstable season previously. They took 5th place in Ligue 1, however, their game was far away from the best. They failed to succeed in UEFA Europa League last year, taking the last place in the group stage with only 1 draw and 5 losses. Of course, it was hard to compete with teams like Lazio and Eintracht Frankfurt, however, fans and analytics expected much more from them.
The match against Nantes was very the match against Nantes was not noticeable since we did not see very dangerous moments. Given that Marseille did not score a penalty, they failed to create good dangerous moments in the attack, but for that, they stood up very confident in defence. After a penalty not scored, the team was morally weaker and this all stopped working out. Now the squad of the team looks very good since in all positions there are very talented players who can play at the highest level. We believe that this season the team needs a little more time in order to reveal themselves.
