Rennes vs Paris SG - 27/04/2019 Preview

Rennes will face Paris SG at Stade de France, in Paris – Saint-Denis, at the Coupe de France FINAL. Rennes against Paris SG is the match with big interest after their previous matches in all competitions. Review our thoughts on this match here below.

Rennes

Stade Rennes is one of the most interesting clubs in France with big potential and abilities. In Ligue 1 they stand at 11th place with only 43 points and 11 wins in 33 games. They showed great football in UEFA Europa League and finished second in Group stage. Even after a losing streak, they won 2 last games against Jablonec and FC Astana and been promoted to Play-off. In 1/16- finals they knocked out Spanish Real Betis. After that, they met Arsenal and won against them at home by 3:1 result, however, Arsenal made a comeback in London with 3:0. In general, they showed great football and big aspiration to be among the best teams.

In Coupe de France Rennes has overcome a difficult path. At 1/32 final they won against Brest by penalties in a very tough game. At 1/16 final they met Saint-Pryve and won confidently 2:0 controlling the match. Rennes won against very strong Lille 2:1 in a very hard and tough game. The red card at the beginning of the match helped Les Rouges et Noirs to overcome opponents. The Quarter-final was surprisingly easy for them since they met Ligue 2 team Orleans and confidently won with 2:0 result. The most interesting and important match was in Semi-final against Olympique Lyonnais. Lyon had better chances to succeed, however, Rennes made everything to win this match. They played strongly and finally won this game.

Unfortunately, Rennes will play without Ludovic Baal, Romain Danze, Rafik Guitane and Jordan Siebatcheu due to injuries. Stade Rennes is very strong at attacking set pieces, creating chances through individual skills and shooting from direct free kicks. However, they have weaknesses at protecting the lead, finishing and creating scoring chances. M’Baye Niang, Benjamin Bourigeaud, Smail Sarr and of course, experienced and skillful Hatem Ben Arfa are the most dangerous team players.

Paris SG

Paris Saint Germain already confirmed as a Champions of French Ligue 1. Of course, their team budget, players and abilities are a lot better than any other teams in France. The last games they played with the rotational squad to give some rest for most important players and give some playing minutes to youngsters. Mbappe scored a hattrick to his ex-club Monaco in the last game. Only in Ligue 1, this young talent is the best striker with 30 goals and 6 assists. Unfortunately, after a bad game in Paris, they lost to Manchester United in Champions League 1/8 Final. That was biggest lose of the season, as they planned to go further in Europe’s best tournament.

In Coupe de France PSG had an easy way. They won 3 first rounds without conceding any goal and won against Pontivy, Strasbourg, and Villefranche whitout any problems. In Quarter-final they met Dijon and won 3:0 in a very easy game. They controlled the game with 70% of possession and had 24 goal attempts. Then in Semi-final they faced Nantes and won with the same result. Once again they fully controlled the game and realized the most dangerous moment.

The most joyful thing is that Neymar already came back to playing squad. He played 45minutes against Monaco and we can expect his attendance in the first eleven in this game too. Unfortunately, Thiago Silva, Thomas Meunier, and Angel Di Maria will miss the match due to injuries. This season they play very strong at finishing scoring chances, counter attacks, creating chances using through balls and chances through individual skills. However, they have weaknesses at avoiding offside, aerial duels and stopping opponents from creating chances. Even missing half of the season, Neymar is still among best teams scorers with 13 goals. Edison Cavani, Kylian Mbappe and Angel Di Maria are the best team players with great skills and abilities.
