Liverpool will face FC Porto at Anfield Stadium, in Liverpool, in the Champions League Quarter-Finals first leg. Liverpool against FC Porto is always the match with big interest, especially during this season. Review our thoughts on this match here below.

Liverpool

Liverpool looks ahead with big chances to succeed against Portuguese in the Quarter-final of Champions League. Of course, the club from Liverpool looks very confident this year with the big desire of taking at least one trophy. In Premier League they have 2 points difference against City, however, Manchester has 1 game in reserve. There is a very tough fight between them in PL for becoming champions. In the last match against Southampton, they showed their strength and aspiration for fighting till the end for the long-awaited trophy in England.

Last 5 matches in different competitions finished with goals from both teams. In Premier League and Champions League Liverpool is unbeaten this season. On Anfield, they lost only to Chelsea in EFL Cup 1/16 Round. Their defense working great at home, so we can call them team with the best defense in the Premier League. Since the Virgil van Dijk joined the club, defensive line-up becomes one of the strongest in PL and maybe in the whole world. From the beginning of the season, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is missing with injury, however, his return expected on 17th of April already. All other main squad players are fit and ready to join Liverpool in this important clash against Porto.

This season M. Salah is set to repeat previous season’s result and prove everyone that he deserves to be among the best players in the world. The Reds this season are playing very strong at finishing scoring chances, counter attacks, attacking and defending set pieces. Unfortunately, they are weak at aerial duels. They playing possessional and non-aggressive football. In Champions League they control the game with 51.9% possession and pass with 80.7% accuracy.

FC Porto

Football club Porto looks great in Portugal and in Champions League also, after leaving behind Roma in 1/8 Finals. Moreover, they are set to fight for the treble this season. Porto continuing their path in Champions League. In Taca de Portugal they won against Braga and were promoted to Final where they will face Sporting. And finally, in Primeira Liga, they stand at 1st place with 3 points difference between their constant rival Benfica. In total, Porto is playing a very confident season with their ups and downs. Like every strong and promising club, Porto will fight to the end to fulfill the goals of the season.

FC Porto won 4 of their 5 last matches. One of the most important wins of the season was the win against Roma in extra time. The game was very advanced, but Porto managed to earn a penalty at the end of extra time and snatch an important victory. Great players and a perfectly managed club is still one of the strongest in Portugal and in Europe. Lots of talented players joining and leaving for bigger clubs, so we call this club as one of the most successful in terms of growing young players and the expansion of their abilities. If Porto would keep their best players, then we could see how they are playing hopefully for the strongest club in the world.

Of course, now they have a very strong team. Porto is playing great at attacking and defending set pieces, creating scoring chances, aerial duels and attacking down the wings. Unfortunately, Vincent Aboubakar and very likely Alex Telles will miss this important match due to injuries. In total, Porto plays very strong possessional and non-aggressive football. In Champions League they control the game with 54.3% possession and pass with 79.8% accuracy.

H2H

Porto failed to win against Liverpool in all their matches. in the 2018 Champion League’s 1/8 Finals they met and Porto played a draw on Anfield. However, at Estádio do Dragão, in Porto, they lost with 5:0 result. This year, Liverpool should be even more motivated in CL and will play as strong as it is possible to reach Final and fix last year mistakes.
