Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid will be the 4th round of this year’s Champions League. So far, Liverpool has won all three games and is currently in the first place. A win against Atletico would guarantee that they stay 1st. Atletico should be very disappointed after their previous loss against Liverpool, bus also confident that they are not unbeatable. So this should be a very interesting game, if you want more insights on this game, please read our preview below.
Liverpool
Liverpool’s return to Anfield after a near four-week absence was spoiled after relinquishing a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 with Brighton over the weekend but preserving their unbeaten start to the season. After a medley of big games, perhaps Liverpool hadn’t quite grounded themselves, but a UEFA Champions League night at Anfield is another matter though, as they often seem to save their best for big European nights. Klopp’s players should be keen on winning this game because it would allow them to secure 1st place and concentrate on the Premier league. However, Atletico is a very dangerous opponent, who has already shown, that they intend to fight till the end, therefore to underestimate them, would be a massive mistake.
Atletico Madrid
Atlético can ride the momentum of winning their last two away games in the Champions League group stages, but they’ve only won three in a row once before under Simeone. Their last trip to Anfield should give them some confidence that they could achieve that feat, however, as they famously sent their hosts packing in extra-time of the 2019/20 UCL Round of 16. However, they managed to make a come-back in their last meeting against Liverpool, eventually losing because of Griezmann’s red card, but nevertheless, it should give confidence for this game. Atletico will have to make certain conclusions about their defence because allowing Liverpool to score 3 times will never allow them to win a game.
Liverpool vs Atletico Madrid H2H
Both teams faced each other 9 times. Both shared 3 wins and 3 draws, however, only two times home team lost. So this might be a big advantage for Atletico.
