Baskonia

Even though Baskonia have changed the coach Perasovic for D. Ivanovič, it seems like it haven’t affected this team the right way. Baskonia have managed to win against Barcelona at home a few weeks back but followed it up with 3 losses in a row, including one against Fenerbahce Ulker at home (65-79), and Zenit in away game (66-72). Even if the match against Ulker were not the best one and we can argue that Ulker will rise up to playoff spot in the 2nd round, the match against Zenit were absolutely winnable and Baskonia could have taken control of the match at any point, but they didn’t. It’s hard to tell if there’s a bad chemistry inside of the team or is the coaching staff not doing their job correctly, but for such a strong lineup that this team has, it’s a shame to be in the 15th placed after 20 rounds.

Khimki

Khimki have also been struggling lately as they’ve lost 6 matches in a row before taking down Real at home (102-94). There were a lot of talks about the possible changes if results won’t get any better, but Kurtinaitis and the team got another chance to prove that this team can reach the playoffs. Because of such a great start of the season and despite recent struggles, Khimki are still very close to reaching the playoffs, sitting in 10th place. Janis Timma is playing the best season of his career and he’s slowly but surely becoming a top-caliber player in Europe. A lot will depend on Timma’s and Shved’s performances, but the win on Thursday would definitely be a very important one in order to get back on winning ways.
