Stanislas Wawrinka
Currently ranked 28th mainly because Wawrinka lowered the number of tournaments he is playing at and had a lot of problems with injuries last year. His consistency is not on the same level as it used to be but Stan is still a very dangerous opponent for anyone. Best known for his incredible backhand and control of the game Stan is always a guy everyone loves watching.
Stan lost at the opening round last year to Garcia – Lopez and left the tournament at the earliest stage. This year is different as he is more prepared and healthy after injuries. Wawrinka had no problems in the first 2 rounds by beating Kovalik in straight sets and only giving 1 set away to Garin.
Grigor Dimitrov
Currently 46th in the world but he is capable of so much more. Once everyone starts losing hope on Dimitrov he starts beating players like Cilic in the most unexpected ways. Dimitrov almost lost to Tipsarevic in the opening round and was close to elimination. Not many people expected him to win against last years quarter-finalist Marin Cilic in a close match. The same match that Cilic controlled for about 3 and a half sets. But Dimitrov showed why he used to be considered as the top tier player. He managed to come back in the game and finished the business with Croatian in 5 sets.
Dimitrov hasn’t had a successful tournament last year as he was eliminated in R32. New year new story and seeing the form he is showing at the moment this might be the tournament to break free from all the slumps and get some consistency going on the way back to Top 10.
