Grigor Dimitrov

Only 46th in the world currently as a bad ending of the last season and a similar start of this season forced Dimitrov’s rank to drop from Top 10 to 43rd. Dimitrov was always considered to have the potential of a superstar but the expectation was quite too high for this guy. Even though he can play a great game against anyone he might still lose to some much lower ranked player the day after that. Consistency has always been the main thing Dimitrov was lacking and this year have not changed this fact.

Dimitrov dropped out of this tournament in R32 last year. He lost to Fernando Verdasco which means he has 90 points to defend here. He definitely has the ability to give a good fight to Cilic or even win the match. So it all depends on how prepared for this match he is and how motivated he looks.

Marin Cilic

Currently 13th in the world and Quarter-finalist of last year’s Roland Garros. Cilic has 360 points to defend here and losing in this round would smack his ratings even more as he dropped out of Top10 not too long ago. After a tough start of the season, Marin managed to adapt to clay has won 5 out of 6 games since then. He is a guy who shines brightest on the highest stages and definitely needs to be respected by everyone. We have to see what Cilic will show against the stronger competition this time. Dimitrov might surprise as well if Cilic underestimates him for a minute. It is expected to be a good and tough battle but Cilic is considered a favorite here for a good reason.
