The third Masters 1000 series event of the year awaits us at luxurious ATP Tournament in Monaco. We’re gonna see a very exciting first round match between two young talents Borna Coric and Jaume Munar. This one is going to be a really entertaining matchup.

 

Borna Coric

It won’t be a surprise for me personally if one day Borna wins a grand slam. One of the reasons would be his performance in last years Davis cup where Croatia claimed the title. Borna is one of the most talented youngsters and not only has a great technical arsenal but also a great attitude and a warriors character. Coric has proven he can play with anyone and already has victories against most of the top players. The first month of the new season was a bit of a struggle for Borna but he got in a gear on Dubai where he only lost to Federer. Indian Wells wasn’t the best tournament but Miami master was the one where Coric reached semis lost mostly due to tiredness as all of his previous matches were won in deciding sets.

Borna’s style is similar to Andy Murray’s it’s based on patience and counter punching. His idol’s growing up was Andy and Rafa so no surprise here. He’s got a great backhand but forehand can be a bit wild at times though it’s improving. He’s very coordinated and one of the fastest on the tour. An interesting fact is that Borna is a lefty but plays tennis as a righty (an opposite to Nadal) that’s why his backhand is better than the forehand probably.

 

Jaume Munar

Jaume Munar is the youngest Spaniard in the worlds top 100. Another hugely talented kid from Spain who we have no doubt we’re gonna see on the biggest stages in near future. Jaume spends a lot of time training in Rafa Nadal’s academy and gains his experience not only from Rafa but uncle Toni as well. Those who follow tennis Munar is already a name they have heard of. In 2013 Jaume being 16 years old he beat his idol David Ferrer in Roland Garros when Ferru was worlds number 3. Munar is having a good season.

He mostly played on clay which is his best surface. A couple of great scalps under his belt: Cecchinato, Fognini and most recent and biggest – Sascha Zverev. Munar style is a hard working baseliner with a very good backhand and a great transition from defense to offense. Very tough mentally and has a huge resemblance to David Ferrer’s game. So it’s safe to say Spanish tennis is in good hands.
