R. Berankis against S. Ofner is one more great match at the Saint Brieuc Tournament taking place in France on the hard (indoor) court. Lithuanian Ricardas Berankis and young talent from Austria Sebastian Ofner are going to face off. Both players play easily on the eye attacking tennis so this one should be exciting. Review our thoughts on this match here below.

Ricardas Berankis

Ricardas Berankis a potential top player one of the best juniors of his generation but the transition to men’s tennis was difficult than expected. Having been top 50 in the world a couple of years ago Ricardas mostly plays in challenger circuit and usually goes deep. More often than not his fragile mental side causes him to climb up to higher ranking spots as he’s lost a lot of close matches in his career. And although his shown to be inconsistent he’s already 29 and seems like maturity is slowly creeping into his game and this year’s result show. Two challenger trophies already at the start of the season. And one of the most memorable weeks of Lithuanians career, a win against an inform top player Danil Medvedev and only a loss in QF deciding set against Monfils being up a break in the third. This was an ATP 500 tournament!

This is arguably his best start of the season ever. Berankis is a hard-hitting baseliner. Good from both wings and a good mover on hard as he has to compensate his weak serve which is not great as Ricardis is very short in height for a tennis player. When he’s on his game he’s great to watch as he likes to take the ball early and hits it quite flat but on the other hand, a lot of unforced errors can be expected when Lithuanian is not on top of his game and there’s usually no plan B in Ricardas’s game.

Sebastian Ofner

Sebastian Ofner 22 years old Austrian is an up and coming newbie but also has a couple of decent wins under his belt having beaten Pablo Cuevas, Niko Basilashvilli and some other well-known names in tennis. He’s got everything that is required to become a top player. Though his favorite surface is clay, last year Seb lifted his first trophy in Astana on a hardcourt tournament. This season’s start is quite intense for the Austrian as it’s already his seventh tournament. All of which came on hard. His best result was reaching semis a week ago only to lose to eventual champion – Gregorie Barrere. So the current form is not bad.

Talking about his strengths the main would be the serve which allows him to play decent on fast courts but he’s also good on the baseline and around the net so he’s kind of an all arounder if you like.

H2H

These players have never met before.
